Whose Battle is it?

Tell me – when you’re involved in a battle of any sort – who do you turn to for help?  Or do you just ‘battle it out’ on your own – the best you can?

We’re told of a mighty battle that King Jehoshaphat was facing against his enemies (2 Chronicles 20) – so who did he turn to for help?  After all, as he was the King he would have no one above him to ask for help.  EXCEPT…. he had the Lord, and had a relationship with Him, he knew he could ask for help.

And that’s exactly what he did (v3)!  We’re told that he set himself to seek the Lord and even “proclaimed a fast in all Judah”.

And the result?  Here it is….

“….King Jehoshaphat. The Lord says this to you: Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”  2 Chronicles 20:15 AMPC

…..and, in fact, the King was told he need not fight – but to “stand still and see the deliverance of the Lord” (v17).

We read that Jehoshaphat appointed singers to go out in front of the army.  When  they began to sing and praise the Lord, their opponents began to fight each other and, when the King’s army got to the battlefield they found all the opposing army were dead.

Battle Strategy

I believe the Lord has given us a wonderful example of how to tackle our battles – whether  they be ‘physical’, as in the case of King Jehoshaphat; or ‘spiritual’, which is so often the case in our own experience!

Our first, and most important action, is to make the Lord our first ‘port of call’ – and ask Him what we should do.  But, alongside that, we should remember the power there is in ‘praise’ – yes, I said ‘praise’.  As well as asking the Lord what to do –  we need to start to praise Him in the situation / battle we find ourselves in.

Even if we haven’t received the answer yet as to what we should do; just by starting to praise the Lord it will cause the enemy to start backing off.  He hates it when we start to praise the Lord!!

TRY IT… I can assure you that it works!! 💃🏻🙌👏

You’ll more than likely know it already…. but here’s a link to Michael Smith’s “Surrounded (Fight My Battles).”  Just some more encouragement for you on your way!!
