David’s Song of Praise

I love this Psalm of David in the Message translation, where it says:

“Wake up, you sleepyhead city!  Wake up you sleepyhead people!  King-Glory is ready to enter.”

David is recognising the need of the Lord’s people to stir themselves up to praise and worship their King of Kings!  And in other translations the verse speaks of the need to ‘lift our heads up’.

“Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.”  Psalms 24:7 NKJV

Rock Bottom

Have you ever been at ‘rock bottom’?  I found myself exactly like that back in 1970, and a dear friend took me to a man of God for prayer.  The first thing he did was to take my hands and lift them up.  At the same time he said I needed to lift my head and look up – which was the exact opposite to what I had been doing, or wanted to do!

Those simple actions, especially the lifting of my head, started a stirring in my spirit – and when he prayed for me I was able to respond and rise up on the inside.  Most of all it was at that point that I was able to allow Jesus to give me the comfort I needed.  Just as it says in Psalm 3:3 – “You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”

David’s Example

David knew what it was like to be at ‘rock bottom’ – but he also knew what it was like, and that it was possible, to go to His Father for comfort and be rescued.  Let’s follow David’s example – not only in the big challenges, but in the smaller ones as well, and always go to Him for the encouragement we need.

Let’s ‘lift up our heads’ and praise the Lord in all He has on His heart for us today!💃🏻🙌

Be blessed. 🙏❣️
