How Green Are You?
Tell me, have you ever registered the fact that David is bold enough to describe himself as, and actually states the fact that:
“I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in and confidently rely on the loving-kindness and the mercy of God forever and ever.” Psalm 52:8 AMPC
Hence my question asking how green you are, at the start of this blog! Have you ever thought of yourself as a tree?
Here’s what the Psalmist, responsible for the first Psalm, says about it:
“….he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].” Psalm 1:3 AMPC
But how does it all connect up and make sense? Well, you see, in the first two verses the Psalmist says how blessed is the ‘man’ (and don’t forget when used like this it also means a woman as well!) who delights in the law (that’s the Word) of God. Someone who studies and thinks about God’s Word.
The Result?
So what are we told is the result of this? We can find out about the results in verse 3 of the Psalm! Those who live immersed in God’s Word are described as being like trees that are planted by streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season…. and EVERYTHING that they do will prosper.
The Connection
So what’s the connection, you may well ask? Well, the connection is that the blessing comes from delighting in God’s law – and God’s ‘law’ is the Word. Long before the Psalmist spoke of the connection – Joshua speaks to us about meditating on the Word and putting it into practice in our lives.
A Lamp and a Path
Then another, later Psalmist, points out the fact that God’s Word is like “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. (Psalm 119:105 AMPC)
You see, what Father has given us in the Word of God are instructions on how to live our lives in a relationship with Him. He is the Source of our life – in just the same way that water is the source of life for a tree. There would be no fruit appearing on a tree, without it having had water – and there’ll be no fruit in our lives if we’re not drinking of the water of life that Jesus gives to us.
The Source
It’s through God’s Word that we learn this – that there’s light and guidance for each one of us. In fact, in God’s Word we find EVERYTHING we need to live life as Father has planned for us.
Be blessed and encouraged as you study and meditate on God’d Word. 🙏❣️
