”ARISE [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you–rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!“. Isaiah 60:1 AMPC
A New Day
Are you what is called a ‘morning’ person – or are you a ‘night owl’? In other words, what are you like first thing in the morning, when it comes to getting out of bed to face a new day?!!
It’s certainly not a question that Isaiah poses, when he launches into verse 1 of this chapter, where he’s talking about the future glory of Israel. In fact the verse starts, in the majority of translations, with just two short words: “Arise, shine”; which makes me feel that actually it’s a ‘command’ more than anything else!
Mind Set
So, what are we being commanded to do? I think we are being commanded to get out of bed, yes, but to get out with a particular ‘mind set’, that will give us the ‘tone’ of the day we are just entering into. And once we’re out of bed, we are expected to ‘shine’ – whether we feel like it or not. That’s where the ‘mind set’ comes in, because we have a choice as to whether we will or not!!
But why is it so important that we ‘shine’ first thing in the morning? I believe that when we make that choice and make this our Declaration over our life, that the light of the glory of the Lord shines in us; and out of us to those around us. It also angers the enemy to see the light shining out of us, and, best of all – it pleases our Father. And when we hear the Declaration with our own ears, which is why it’s so important to say it out loud, we are encouraging ourselves to shine.
Be encouraged and “Shine for Jesus” today… and every day! 🙏❣️
Arise and shine- praise the Lord that he has given us a new day to do his work, that we can best use the gifts he has given us to shine on those who he has directed us to help those most in need.
