“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world.” Deuteronomy 28:1 NLT
The Lord Looks For Obedience
I don’t know about you, but I don’t always find it that easy to obey and do what I should do. And yet we find here that that’s exactly what God is again saying through Moses to His people, the Israelites. He’s saying it again as they don’t have too good a track record of being obedient. He’s saying it again because He’s preparing them to go into the Promised Land and, not long after this, explains that Joshua will be leading them.
And Moses?
What about Moses, who led them out of Egypt, and through the 40 years in the desert – how come he isn’t leading them into the Promised Land of Canaan? Well, not to put too fine a point on it – he’d ’blown it…. In other words – it’s because he was disobedient! In fact, out of all the Israelites who came out of Egypt, only two men of their generation – Joshua and Caleb, will actually live to do that. It is disobedience that lies at the root of the outcome – for all but these two men.
God’s Promise
God promised before, and promises again to the Israelites – and to all those of us who have been born again into His family. He promised that, if we are obedient, then He will bless us abundantly and lift us up above all other people. What a wonderful promise – but, at the same time, what a challenge!
Help Me to Obey You Lord
As born again children of the Most High God, we have the privilege of being in dwelt by the Holy Spirit! It is with His help, and by the Grace of God, that He will show us how to live in obedience and will help us – if we ask Him to, and will let Him….
My Heart Cry
Please Lord help me to always be willing to be obedient to what You ask me to do…🙏
