“Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.” Psalms 51:1 NLT.
Admit to Sin
It’s not always easy to admit we’re in the wrong – and in some instances it’s much harder than others! I think this was the case with David, when it took about a year before he could acknowledge to the Lord his wrong doing and repent – leaving the way open for him to be forgiven by his Father. David hadn’t just strayed a bit – he’d committed adultery, knowing full well what he was doing. Then, when unable to cover things up adequately – he ended up arranging to have the woman’s husband killed on the battlefield.
Accept Forgiveness
But… once he admitted his sin(s), David was able to give it to his Father and, most important of all, accept His forgiveness! How? It was because David knew, and accepted, His Father’s unfailing love – so he didn’t live under the burden of guilt for the rest of his life.
It’s so important that, when we accept our Father’s forgiveness, we also forgive ourselves and allow Him to cleanse us of the sin we committed. (1 John 1:9). That’s God’s grace and how it is that we can be free of it.
God’s Love Never Fails
It all boils down to the great love that our Father has for each one of us and because that love is ‘faithful love’, (referred to as this in some of the translations!). His love never fails us – is always faithful and is great enough to cover and remove all our sins, because of Jesus’ death on the cross. What more could we ask for?
How wonderful to know that God will have mercy on me – because of His love and kindness.
Be blessed and encouraged!! God bless, 🙏❣️
