“But now thus says the Lord:….“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1 ESV

How do We Deal with Fear!

I think any of us, if we’re honest, would acknowledge that there are times when we feel fear.  Sometimes it’s a slight niggling feeling that things aren’t as they should be – tinged with the realisation that it could tip over into fear.  Other times it can engulf us to the extent that we feel completely overwhelmed by it!  But what do we do, you and I, about the fear that comes upon us, whatever strength it might be?  And, more to the point, what does our Father say to us about fear and what we should do?

Switching Off Fear!

God’s Word says in Isaiah 41:1 “Fear not…” – and this is given to us as a command for us to obey.  But how?  How can we switch off our feeling of fear, especially when it is the overwhelming sort of fear that can be experienced?  God, in His love and mercy, along with that command also says:  “…..I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”  And in 1 John 4:18: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear….”

We Have a Choice

And again I say:  “But how…?”  We have to make a conscious effort to choose to ask the Lord for His help and then act on it….  Joyce Meyer always refers to it as “Doing it afraid”!!  As we reach out to Father for help, and start believing and acting as though the fear has gone (even when we don’t feel it) – the Holy Spirit helps us to stand against the enemy (which is where the fear comes from) – and he has to flee.  Praise the Lord!
