Chosen to be King

We read in 1 Samuel 13:14 (AMPC) about David, a shepherd boy (although the Lord calls him a man – because He sees what he will become), being chosen by the Lord to be the next king of Israel.

The Prophet Samuel explains that:  “…..the Lord has sought out [David] a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince and ruler over His people….”

David is well known for his praise of God in the many psalms he wrote; but he was also extremely honest, and would say so and how he was feeling when he cries out to God for help to cope with what he was facing.  He was also well aware of his frailty as a ‘man’, and we see this particularly in Psalm 139:23.  He cries out to the Lord saying:

“Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!”

He recognised that it was the Lord, and Him alone, that really knew what was going on in his heart!

How Bold are You?

David was a brave man, and a realistic one as well!  David prayed a bold prayer when he asked God to search him and know his heart and what his thoughts were.  Are we, you and I, bold enough to pray as David prayed?

Watchman Nee tells us that “…..my true knowledge of self doesn’t come from me searching – only from God searching me….”.  You see it’s no good rooting around in our hearts to see what’s there that shouldn’t be and, actually, if we do manage to dig up something – we’re not the ones who can deal with it and remove it anyway.

What to do?

The only way we can know, is to let Jesus show us – but so often we don’t believe it…..  But the only way to be free of it is to choose to recognise that Jesus is right, and allow Him to deal with it.  And basically we need to “hand our hearts over to God to be searched and guarded, and be filled with the Holy Spirit….” (Oswald Chambers).

Father really is the only One who knows my heart and is able to deal with whatever is there that needs dealing with.

Honest with God

Like David, we need to be completely open and honest with God, and allow Him to deal with it!

Be Blessed 🙏❣️
