“This is the secret of David. Keep me safe, my God, because I come to you for help. I said to the LORD, You are my Lord. All the good things in my life come from you.” Psalms 16:1-2 EASY
Miktam of David
One of the meanings for the Hebrew word “miktam” is “secret”; another meaning is “gold”. It is not surprising that this Psalm is called the Miktam of David, as it reveals the ‘secret’ of his life, that it is his relationship to God that is central to everything else. In whatever situation he finds himself in, he always runs to his God for protection. We see this again in Psalm 11:1 when he says “In the Lord I take refuge….”
Who Do You Run To?
As well as always ‘running’ to the Lord for help and to find refuge; David also acknowledged that all the good things in his life came from the Lord. May I ask you a question? When trouble comes in your direction, and realistically it always does at some stage – where do you go for help? Is your first action to run to a friend or a family member to ask their help? Or, do you follow David’s example, and go first of all to your Heavenly Father?
Make Your Father Your FIRST Call
Can I encourage you today, to learn more and more to go first of all to Father and ask Him what you should do. Part of the answer may well involve talking it over with a friend and asking their help to solve it but, if you do that on the Lord’s instructions you’ll find you’ll have the faith to trust Him for the outcome!
