“Set a guard, O Lord, before my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3 AMPC

How often do you say something – and then wished you hadn’t said it and could take it back?  I have to be honest and put my hands up and say I do!

David, in this Psalm from which our verse and declaration come from today, shares his heart cry to the Lord on this very subject.  He asks Him very specifically to ‘set a guard’ and ‘keep watch’ over what comes out of his mouth.  And I love the Passion translation of this verse:  “God, give me grace to guard my lips from speaking what is wrong.” (Psalms 141:3 TPT)  It rather highlights the fact that it’s only by God’s grace that change can come.

But, and this is important, we need to do our part – as God will do His…. by His grace and through the power of His Word.  So what am I saying?  We need to ‘pray the Word’ or ‘declare’ it as we are doing today.  Look up other scriptures that, like Psalm 141:3, are specific – such as Psalm 17:3 “I will not sin with my words.” (TPT), and pray and declare them.  And ask the Lord continually to help you through the power of His Holy Spirit.

It’s not easy, and it won’t change overnight!  But, above all it’s a choice only we can make, and trust Father to help us in the discipline of learning how to work and keep at it.  I’m learning to ask His help to be alert and vigilant – especially if it’s an important discussion of any sort, when my attitude and what I say has even more importance.

I encourage you to walk this way with Jesus – and believe and trust Him to help you….

Let’s Declare together: “Dear God, set a guard over my mouth and watch over the door of my lips.”

Be blessed 🙏❣️
