“You, Lord, are the light that keeps me safe. I am not afraid of anyone. You protect me, and I have no fears.” Psalms 27:1 CEV.
What Do You Do?
Once again we find David in this Psalm encouraging himself in the Lord. He’s not denying the challenges coming against him but is sharing with us how he copes with them and overcomes what he’s feeling.
What do you do when you’re facing the every day challenges that we all face, and even more so, when the bigger, possibly life changing challenges come against you? Do you find they flood your emotions and engulf you with fear that freezes any action on your part? Or are you learning to face them and, with the Lord’s help, stand firm in the midst of all that is happening?
How Did David Cope?
At the centre of how David copes, trusts the Lord and is not frozen in fear…… is his love relationship with the Lord. Rooted in his heart and spirit is the knowledge and belief that God is on ‘his side’; that He’s the Light in every dark place and he is surrounded by His protection at all times. And this is true even when he doesn’t feel it!
When the Enemy Comes
So, when the enemy comes to try and tip him over into fear – David reminds himself what God says about the situation and stands in the truth of that and declares that he is not afraid. Let’s be encouraged to follow David’s example – stand in the truth of what God’s Word says and learn to encourage ourselves in the difficult situations we might face in our own lives.
Remember…. God is standing with you – you don’t need to be afraid! 🙏❣️
