“The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me; thy steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever…..” Psalms 138:8 RSV
When you hear of older couples whose marriage has lasted for a long time and they are still happily married – do you ever wonder how they’ve managed it….? I believe it is because they have a steady love for one another, which has become a stable relationship – not easily shaken!
Your Steadfast Love Endures
The Passion translation of our verse today speaks of the Lord’s love for us as being ‘constant and endless’; and other translations speak of the ‘steadfast love’ of the Lord that is enduring and lasts for ever. In other words – His love will never fail us!
This is the sort of love relationship that Jesus, the bridegroom, wants to have with us, His bride – which is what the Song of Solomon is all about. The long lasting marriage I referred to earlier, is a picture of this relationship.
Strength in Love
David, who wrote this Psalm, has discovered this love relationship with his Father. His love for the Lord is constant and, when trouble arises in any form – that’s where he runs to, straight into his Father’s arms. There is tremendous strength in that relationship and David confidently says that the Lord ‘will fulfil His purpose for me’. And what is true for David, is true for us, for you and me as well today!
Be blessed and allow the Lord to smooth any rough edges in your life! God bless 🙏❣️
