Paul tells us very clearly that we’re to never stop praying – but have you ever thought to yourself: “It’s all very well for him – how on earth are you supposed to do that?”
Let’s be clear, before going any further, that He never meant it to be some sort of restriction on us to keep us bound up in any way. Quite the opposite in fact…. His desire was to bring us into greater freedom in our relationship with Jesus. If you think of those you love, maybe the person you’re married to, or a close friend – we don’t usually find any difficulty about chatting to them and sharing all that’s going on in our lives.
Well, the greatest friend and companion we can ever have is Jesus – and His desire is for us to talk to Him all the time and involve Him in everything we do – in fact to depend on Him completely. We don’t have to use any special ‘prayer language’ but talk to Him naturally – although He has also given us a ‘spiritual’ language (speaking in tongues), which we can also use.
I’m not excluding special times of prayer during the day – I think we need those too. And times when we pray with other believers – there is such power in the unity of praying together!
I would encourage you to go on your own journey in the Word and find out more of the different aspects of prayer – there is so much more than most of us have even begun to find out. And I believe the Holy Spirit is longing for us to ask Him to teach us. What an adventure to embark on!
Let’s Declare together… “Lord, make me an ever flowing fountain of prayer.”
